Softball: Bison swept by Raiders

Bethany College softball hosted Mount Union in a non-conference doubleheader on Bison Field, Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Raiders swept the Bison, 5-0 and 9-1.

Game One Overview

Mount Union, 5, Bethany 0

The Bison and Purple Raiders were scoreless through the first three innings. In the fourth, Mount Union scored after Cahill singled to centerfield to score Temple. The scoring continued as the Purple Raiders doubled their lead, 2-0 after a sacrifice fly scoring Swartz. Mount Union added two runs in the sixth inning after Cahill hit a two-run homerun. The Purple Raiders added their final run in the seventh inning.

Destiny Goodnight broke up the perfect game in seventh inning earning a single to be the Bison's lone baserunner.

Game Two Overview

Mount Union 9, Bethany 1

Both teams were scoreless through the first inning. The Purple Raiders opened the second inning scoring five runs. The Bison were able to cross the plate in the bottom of the fourth after Emma Sorenson singled to right field scoring Mary Marshall.

The Purple Raiders added two runs in the sixth and another two runs in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead. The Bison went down in order in the seventh to fall to the Purple Raiders.

Bison Leaders

  • Destiny Goodnight had one hit in the first game.
  • In game two, Mary Marshall went 1-3 with one run scored. Emma Sorenson had one RBI.

Bethany College Bison – 0-10 (0-0 PAC)

Mount Union Purple Raiders – 11-3 (0-0 OAC)

Up Next:

Bethany opens up PAC play on Sunday, Mar. 26 against Allegheny in Meadville, Pa. for a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
